(September 27th, 2017)……….Preston Carr and Raymond Baldez went back and forth throughout the season battling for the Championship. Over the final few races though, Preston Carr was able to be just a bit more consistent, as he closed in on his 3rd consecutive Cycleland Speedway Championship. The two-time and defending Box Stock Champion made the move up to the 250 class this season and continued his dominance there as well. Over the last three season’s Carr has amassed a total of 24 Main Event Wins in a spectacular display of ability and consistency.
The Main Event on Saturday night saw Carson Hammes pick up his first career 250 Intermediate victory. It was a big win for the young driver, who has seen older brother Dawson win multiple races this season in the Open Intermediate Class. Both of the Hammes brothers really came into their own in the second half of the season and it showed in their results. Preston Carr finished off his Championship campaign with a second palce effort, giving him 13 top five finishes for the season. Chance Grasty picked up his first top five finish of the year by way of crossing the line in the third spot. Grasty ran a limited schedule this year but still showed improvement each time he was at the racetrack. Raymond Baldez’ Championship efforts came up just short behind Preston Carr. He finished off the season with a fourth place effort. While Evan Burrola rounded out the top five in the fifth position.
In total we saw 14 250 Intermediate drivers sign into the pit area for the points finale. In Time Trials it was Jack Phillips setting fast time for the third time this season with a lap time of 10.975 seconds. Heat race competition saw Drake Standley score his first heat race win of the season. He was later running inside the top five in the Main Event before his motor expired bringing his season to a screeching halt. Trophy Dash competition saw Jack Phillips pick up his first Trophy Dash win of 2017 at Cycleland Speedway.
